Chinese is comprised of a variety of closely related languages and dialects, and is spoken by 1.3 billion people, making it the world’s most widely spoken first language.
The Chinese major will provide you with a high level of literacy in the Chinese language (listening, speaking, reading and writing) as well as an understanding of Chinese culture and society.
China is one of the world’s most vibrant economies and an important trade partner for Australia. With strong social and economic growth occurring in Asia, undertaking a major in this area will provide you with the required skills and knowledge for employment opportunities around the world.
No previous study of the language is required. If you have previously studied Chinese, you will take more advanced classes. There are also units specifically designed for native speakers of Chinese.
