• The course provides an opportunity for graduates from the VCA’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting), Bachelor of Fine Arts (Theatre) and theatre graduates of other institutions to develop their potential for practice-based research and deepen their knowledge and practice as an actor, artist, collaborator and theatre maker through a specialised and advanced fourth year of study.

It introduces students to practice-led research skills and methodologies for devising, defining and managing a major creative project, or series of projects, and related research paper. The project could involve a live performance or installation event, and/or folio of new creative work including scripts, performance scores or short films. The independent research required for producing this major project prepares students for critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and develops an aptitude for continued self-directed learning.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) (Theatre Practice) program also prepares students for a direct pathway to a Masters Research degree, as well as equipping students to work as professional practicing artists in their chosen field of specialisation.
